Kristin, Resources

In class this week, we learned more about the various areas of technology that can be used in the classroom. I think that it is essential, especially in a science classroom, to utilize technology to its fullest. Technology can be extremely effective in helping students new to chemistry to better comprehend a difficult subject. I found three different websites that I believe will be effective in improving my students' education in my future science classroom. The first of these websites is http://www.learner.org/resources/browse.html?discipline=6. On this website teachers can gain access to a variety of materials as well as videos that correspond to these videos. I think that this would be helpful because when I talk about complicated molecule in class I could utilize this website to show students what these molecules actually look like. Also, many of the videos available on this website are free for use by teachers. A second website that I found useful was http://www.sciencedaily.com/videos/matter_energy/inorganic_chemistry/. I liked this website because it relates its stories to scientific advancements that are currently taking place. I would use this in my classroom by having students watch the free video clips that discuss modern science in everyday life and then have them do more research about the topic on their own. Thus, they will begin to see how science is related to their everyday life. A third website that I would use in my future class would be http://education.jlab.org/atomtour/. On this website students can interact and see a 3D model of an atom. It asks them questions and helps them to better understand the structure of an atom. I would use this website so that my students could actively learn about the atom instead of just reading about it in a text book.

Well done, Kristin! The first link especially looks powerful. It needs to sign up the membership to get the free access to the videos, right? Looks good.

The third one helps students understand the concepts well, too.
